I&G heads for Perth in Inveralmond deal
Innis & Gunn, pacesetter in the oak-aged beer sector in Scotland, has bought Inveralmond Brewery in Perth as a result of a £3.1 million crowdfunding scheme. The takeover means I&G's founder Dougal Sharp (pictured) can develop an existing site rather than building a new brewery.

Battle royal to save East End lively local
A local community in Limehouse, East London, is battling to save the Queens Head pub from closure. The Young's pub is thought to be the model for the Queen Vic in Eastenders and was famously visited by the Queen Mother, who was photographed drinking a pint of Young's Special. The pub has been listed as an Asset of Community Value

Thornbridge in £2 million expansion drive
Thornbridge, one of Britain's most successful small independent breweries -- famous for its Jaipur IPA -- has announced a £2 million investment plan to enable it to increase production and add a new bottling line. CAMRA embarks on overhaul for future
Michael Hardman, one of the founders of the Campaign for Real Ale in the 1970s, has returned to the fray to chair CAMRA's Revitalisation Project that will ask its 180,000 members whether it should remain focused on cask beer or become more inclusive by becoming a consumer movement that represent all beer drinkers.

Budvar back to basics with cloudy beer
A new beer from Czech brewer Budweiser Budvar uses the age-old method of "krausening" for its new 4% lager. The beer is neither filtered nor pasteurised and has a slight natural haze in the glass as a result of a powerful second fermentation in the brewery's cellars before it is kegged. The beer will be launched on 10 March in pubs in London and Manchester

Former nightclub crowned pub of year
Grant Cook (pictured) was on holiday when he put in a bid for a former nightclub in Cheltenham. Three years later, the Sandford Park Alehouse has been named National Pub of the Year by CAMRA, with judges praising the choice of 10 cask beers, the warm welcome and the stylish modern decor in the Grade II-listed building

BrewDog stout takes a dig at Diageo
Feisty Scottish brewer BrewDog has launched a milk stout, Jet Black Heart, that takes a tilt at Diageo, the global drinks group that owns Guinness. The beer was chosen by BrewDog drinkers from a range of possible new brands and founders James Watt and Martin Dickie have taken the opportunity to hit back at Diageo which three years ago attempted to stop BrewDog winning a top award in the Scottish Bar Operator of the Year awards
