Hop on the Tardis for some Dorset ale
Scott Wayland, pictured right in the taproom at the Sixpenny Brewery, brews on an former farm in Cranborne, Dorset, where the brewhouse is guarded by Daleks and K9 -- Scott is a former model maker who provided models for Dr Who. He now makes a series of ales sold in free houses in the area and also in the taproom that draws crowds of 250 on music evenings

Dutch giant to axe Caledonian
Heineken is to close the Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh, ending 150 years of brewing at the historic site. The brewery achieved fame when its Deuchar's IPA was named CAMRA's Champion Beer of Britain. Heineken says the Victorian site is not brewing to full capacity and would need major investment to upgrade it.

Kelham Island blown away by whirlwind
Kelham Island Brewery, famous for its Pale Rider golden ale, is closing as a result of what owner Ed Wickett calls a "whirlwind" caused by Covid, lockdown and increases in fuel, grain and delivery charges. The brewery's famous Fat Cat pub in Sheffield will stay open and continue to sell Kelham Island beers while stocks last

Guinness plans £73m London brewery
Guinness is to invest £73 million in a new micro-brewery and visitor centre in Covent Garden in central London. The site will cover 50,000 square feet and create 150 jobs. The site will be known as Guinness at Old Brewer's Yard and is on the historic Combe Brewery site that operated from the 18th to the early 20th century and became part of Watney Combe Reid

Adnams joins forces with Sierra Nevada to celebrate 150 years of brewing
Adnams in Southwold, Suffolk, celebrates 150 years of brewing in 2022. It has joined forces with the Sierra Nevada Brewery in California to make a special collaboration beer called Eastern Edge. It's fermented with yeasts from both breweries and uses Cascade and Chinook hops grown in the U.S. and England. Goachers: Kent's great survivors
Phil and Debbie Goacher launched their brewery in 1983 and restored beer-making to Maidstone, which had lost two large breweries, Fremlins and Style & Winch. Goachers concentrates on strictly traditional styles and still makes a mild. Phil and Debbie have retired and the brewery is run by their son Howard. He uses Kentish hops and would like farmers to grow barley in Kent.

Pilgrim's way is to brew fine beer
Pilgrim Brewery in Reigate is Surrey's oldest brewery and it supplies not only pubs in the county but the Oval cricket ground. It was founded by Dave Roberts, who helped SIBA gain Progressive Beer Duty for smaller brewers. It's now run by a trio who have expanded the beer range and upgraded the brewing kit but remain faithful to Roberts' beers that celebrate the pilgrims who made the long trek from Salisbury to Canterbury

Scots breweries aim for the big time
Innis & Gunn has won planning approval to build a new brewery alongside Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh where there's a renowned school of brewing and distilling. Students will be able to use the brewery's facilities. BrewDog plans to build a vast new brewery and bar at Waterloo Station in London on the site of the former Eurostar terminal
