Quantock celebrates with Milestone IPA
Quantock Brewery has celebrated its 1,500th brew with Milestone 1500, a 6.5 per cent beer described as a "Mountain IPA", combining West Coast and East Coast styles. The brewery was founded in 2008 with an eight-barrel plant that can produce 300 casks per week.

Marston's boss: 'Cask is under the cosh'
Ralph Findlay, the soon-to-retire chief executive of Marston's brewery and pub company, says the beer world has changed dramatically in recent years and younger drinkers are no longer passionate about cask ale. The group's biggest beer brands are Hobgoblin and Wainwright's while such revered ales as Pedigree and Banks's are struggling. He says the merger with Carlsberg will give Marston's greater muscle in the free trade

Chouffe has great beers to go gnome to
Freedom Day may off the agenda on 21 June but beer lovers can celebrate International Gnome Day with five beers from the celebrated La Chouffe brewery in Belgium. The chouffe are mythical gnomes who lived in the forests of the Ardennes and their image graces the labels and pump clips of the brewery. CAMRA@50: carry on campaigning
As the Campaign for Real Ale celebrates its 50th anniversary, a book by Laura Hadland charts the history of CAMRA, the rise and fall of keg beer, the growth of British lager and the dynamic impact of Progressive Beer Duty. With sales of cask beer in crisis as a result of the pandemic and pub shutdowns, the campaign is as a relevant today as it was in the 1970s.

The IPA bandwagon goes rolling on
Just when you thought there could be no further versions of IPA, along come two new interpretations -- Milk Shake and wild. Milk Shake IPAs are brewed with the addition of lactose that can't be fermented by brewer's yeast and gives a creamy note to the beer, while wild Brettanomyces yeast leaves a funky and acidic note. Saltaire brews a Helles of a good lager
Saltaire Brewery in Shipley, West Yorkshire, has brewed a 5% Helles beer, along the lines of the famous Bavarian style consumed in large quantities in Munich beer gardens. The beer is cold conditioned or lagered for six weeks

Beer and whisky unite on Islay
Innis & Gunn has launched an Islay Whisky Cask beer that has been aged in casks at the famous Laphroaig distillery on the island. The casks give the beer a peat, oak and iodine note, with the beer contributing roasted grain and hop character. It's a one-off special edition and will not be repeated so order now

Wigan brewery: beers with hops & a heart
The Hophurst Brewery in Wigan brews great beers and also helps re-skill people over 50 to enable them to get back into the labour market. The brewery opened in 2014 and now has big range of beers available in local pubs and bars and plans its own taproom.

CAMRA @ 50: the St Albans link
As CAMRA celebrates its 50th anniversary, it also recognises the strong links between the organisation and St Albans. The city is home to the head office while the local branch, South Herts, is the oldest in the country, founded at the Farriers Arms pub in 1972 (pictured) The branch also runs one of the most successful beer festivals in the country

Strong Budvar flexes its muscles
The Czech brewer Budweiser Budvar has relaunched its strong 7.5 per cent beer as Budvar Reserve with new main and neck labels. The beer is aged for 200 days in the cellars of the brewery in Ceske Budejovice/Budweis and is brewed with pale malt from Moravia, acclaimed Saaz hops and pure, soft water from a well 300 metres below the brewery. The beer is available in bottle in Britain and in kegs when pubs reopen.
