Burton beer museum finds a new home

The National Brewery Heritage Trust has appointed Laura Waters as Collections Officer to preserve and protect the archives and artefacts from the National Brewery Centre in Burton-on-Trent. The centre has been closed by Molson Coors and the collection will go to a temporary home on Station Street until the new Heritage Centre in Burton is ready.

Tim Taylor brews up a storm in a can

Timothy Taylor, legendary brewer of Landlord pale ale in Bronte country, has launched its first beer in a can. Hopical Storm (4%) uses five English hops, pure Pennine water and fine English barley malts to create a session beer with mandarin, mango and passion fruit aromas and flavours

Greene King launches beer for spring

Greene King has launched Spring Break, a hoppy golden ale, as part of its cask beer seasonal programme. It's brewed in collaboration with apprentices on the National Brewery Apprenticeship Scheme. The brewery is also celebrating winning a prize for its craft beer programme in the Bartenders Brands Awards

TV host Jeff Stelling in boost for cask

Jef Stelling, host of Sky Sports Soccer Saturday and former host of Countdown, has joined forces with brewer and pub retailer Greene King to boost draught cask beer. The brewery has staged a series of events with Jeff where customers have taken part in a pub quiz led by Jeff while enjoying pints of Greene King Abbot Ale. BrewDog stout in challenge to Guinness

Scottish brewer BrewDog has launched a new nitro stout, Black Heart, in a direct challenge to market leader Guinness. The new beer is 4.1 per cent, identical to the Irish beer and will be on sale in pubs from 1 February followed by a packaged version later in the month, BrewDog will have samples of the beer available outside Twickenham rugby ground during the Six Nations tournament, which is sponsored by Guinness

Key brewery joins Belgium's wild bunch

Eylenbosch, one of Belgium's oldest lambic breweries that closed in the 1990s, has been brought back to life and is once again brewing spontaneously fermented lambic and gueuze beers. How NoLO can you get in 'dry' January?

It's possible to enjoy good beer and still give your liver a rest in January. There are some excellent NoLos to be found, including the brilliant Adnams Ghost Ship 0.5% on draught. These beers have come a long way from the days of Barbican and Kaliber that tasted like cold Horlicks.

Greene King pins its faith on cask ale

Suffolk-based brewer and retailer Greene King has invested heavily in 36-pint casks called pins for its seasonal ale. This will enable publicans to offer a range of cask ales in good condition that it's hoped will invigorate the sector and bring new and younger drinkers to real ale. The small containers will cut back on wasted beer

Klopp boots Erdinger to top sales spot

Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool FC, is also the ambassador for the German wheat beer Erdinger in Britain. As a result of the collaboration, Erdinger is now the biggest-selling imported wheat beer in the country. It's brewed with malts grown on farms near the brewery and with hops from the Hallertau region.
