Villagers raise £300,000 to save their pub

Villagers in the tiny Devon village of Littlehempston -- population 207 -- have rallied to save their local pub, the Tally Ho Inn, that was threatened with being turned into housing. The inn has been given Asset of Community Value status and 100 villagers became shareholders in the co-op that now runs the pub and which is open for business

Benner quits CAMRA for top SIBA role

CAMRA Chief Executive Mike Benner, who has masterminded the public role of the campaign for 10 years, is leaving to become managing director of the Society of Independent Brewers. Budvar strong lager hits UK while sales in Czech Republic reach an all-time high

The Czech brewery Budweiser Budvar is bringing its strong 7.5% Special Select beer -- aged for 200 days -- to Britain for the first time on draught. It will be available during the spring period and the unfiltered beer uses hops picked on 3 September and immediately added to the brew. In Prague, the new Czech government has declared that the brewery will remain in state hands while the trademark dispute with AB InBev continues. The brewery's exports are at a record high

Digging up history in a Cornish beer bottle

A bottle of beer thought to date from 1910 has been found at the site of St Piran's Oratory in the sands at Perranporth in Cornwall. The beer is a Walter Hicks' ale brewed at St Austell Brewery and was probably left by a worker engaged in encasing the oratory in concrete to protect it from sea and sand. Brewery archivist Chris Knight (pictured) says there's a drop of beer left in the bottle and it may be possible to identify the actual brew

Author Danny Wallace brews beer with Truman's to boost Nicholson's pub festival

Nicholson's Inns nationwide beer festival, which runs from 24 March to 19 April, will feature an IPA specially brewed by Truman's in East London in collaboration with writer and broadcaster Danny Wallace, whose new novel Who Is Tom Ditto? will be published next month. Wood-aged stout to wow St Patrick's Day

Innovative Edinburgh brewer Innis & Gunn, run by Dougal Sharp (left) has launched a special Irish Whiskey Cask Stout for St Patrick's Day. And it has joined forces with bartender David Ashton-Hyde of the Hinds Head at Bray, owned by Heston Blumenthal, to produce Smokin' Gunn based on the Rauch or smoked beers from Bamberg in Germany
