National brewing giant Marston's has paid £25.1 million for the brewing division of Daniel Thwaites of Blackburn, a family-owned brewery dating from the 19th century. The deal will give Marston's control of two leading ale brands, Wainwright's and Lancaster Bomber

Revived DBA takes Burton by storm

Draught Burton Ale is back -- and it was the great talking point of the Burton beer festival. Three CAMRA members from Derby (left to right) Les Baynton, Dave Evans and John Arguile, encouraged Burton Bridge Brewery to produce a few batches of the beer for the festival but now 16 pubs in Burton and Derby are taking it. The big question is: will Carlsberg agree to hand over the brand name and trademarks so it can be a regular Burton brew again?

Appliance of science boosts British barley

Crisp Malting Group has used British Science Week to take the art of growing grain and turning barley into malt to school children. Young students at Portgordon Primary School in Moray, Scotland, were taken on the journey that leads from barley field to maltings by Richard Lake and Rebecca Gee of Crisps -- and the children were given malted bread at the end of the lessons as a treat.

The 2015 vintage of the limited edition Duvel Tripel Hop features a new American variety, Equinox, that comes from the same Pacific North-west hop farms that created Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe. Oddbins new store hails 'golden age of craft brewing' with 300 beers on offer

Oddbins has launched a beer-only store in Blackheath, south London, that will stock 300 craft beers, mainly drawn from Britain. Ayo Akintola, managing director of the Oddbins' chain, says Britain is enjoying a "golden ale" of craft brewing and sales of beer in his stores have risen by 37% over the past 12 months. Four of the beers on sale are Oddbins' onw-label brands, produced by leading British brewers
