Beer on the move at Kent train festival
The seventh annual Spa Valley railway beer festival, held in conjunction with West Kent CAMRA, offers beer at Tunbridge Wells West Station and also on trains to Groombridge and Eridge. Saluting Dorset pub and seaside brewery
The Square & Compass in Dorset was feted by CAMRA veterans when landlord Charlie Newman received a framed certificate to mark the pub's inclusion in all 45 editions of the Good Beer Guide. The pub serves beer from Hattie Brown's in Swanage, the first brewery in the town for more than 100 years. Budvar goes for growth but legal wrangles continue with AB InBev
Petr Dvorak, the new managing director of Budweiser Budvar in the Czech Republic, is masterminding a £80 million expansion programme at the brewery to build production and sales. The brewery is still locked in disputes with global giant AB InBev over the Budweiser trademark but Dvorak is confident that sales of Original, Budvar Dark, Krausen beer and tank beer will forge ahead in both domestic and overseas markets

Rates time bomb killing pubs -- CAMRA
Pubs face closure due to the crippling level of business rates imposed by the government. CAMRA -- the Campaign for Real Ale -- is making a submission to the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, ahead of the November Budget, calling for £5,000 annual rates relief for pubs to keep them in business.

Cask beer is pub hero says report
The latest Cask Report underlines the importance of cask beer -- real ale --to Britain's pubs. With many new breweries opening, cask beer continues to encourage people to visit local pubs and enjoy the range on offer. The report says the diversity of beer available is now wide and consumption of real ale in pubs aids the British economy far more than coffee shops.

Carlsberg gets to the roots of barley
Danish brewer Carlsberg has found the genome in barley and its scientists are developing new varieties of grain that can resist drought and extreme temperatures and also use less water. The brewer is reducing its carbon footprint and is also developing new hop varieties that can be grown in the Nordic countries and Russia, which are too cold for conventional hops

Lad or lassie? Hop is caught in a bind
A new hop has led to raised eyebrows at Hogs Back Brewery in Surrey where some of the Farnham White Bine variety has changed sex -- from female to male. The hop variety was brought back from the dead a few years ago by Hogs Back and grown on a field opposite the brewery. But now the brewery has discovered that some of the hops have switched gender from female to male -- and only female hops are needed for making beer. Warwickshire Bitter wins Olympia Gold
Church End Brewery's Goats Milk Bitter has walked away with the Gold award in the Champion Beer of Britain competition staged by CAMRA at the Great British Beer Festival at London Olympia. The beer was first brewed as a one-off for a pub but proved so popular it has become a regular part of the brewery's range. Paul Hamblett from Church End is seen with the trophy at Olympia
