Suffolk brewer Greene King has restored a 19th-century barley, Chevallier, to brew a new Heritage Series of beers. Suffolk Pale Ale and Vintage Fine Ale are on sale exclusively in Tesco. The grain was grown by Crisp Malt in Norfolk who took just five seeds to grow a new batch of the grain

The former Charles Wells Brewery in Bedford, sold to Marston's last year for £55 million, has re-opened as the Eagle Brewery and will have a visitor centre, with brewery tours available. Such former Wells' brands as Bombardier, Eagle IPA, Waggle Dance and Banana Bread Beer, will be given fresh investment and promotion. And Courage Imperial Russian Stout could be revived

CAMRA -- the Campaign for Real Ale -- is reaching out all beer lovers, not just cask ale drinkers, with a set of new proposals that will radically change the direction of the 46-year-old consumer organisation. As a result of its Revitalisation Programme, CAMRA's leadership will propose to its annual meeting in April that it should extend its scope to other types of quality beer -- though real ale will remain its focus

A Kent pub has been given CAMRA's Pub Saving Award following a spirited campaign by locals to save it. The Harrow in Stockbury was closed by brewer Shepherd Neame but the community came together to raise the funds to buy and re-open it in 2017. It's now the hub of the community, offering not only good beer but book swaps and an internet cafe.

With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, a small group of beer lovers sat down to sample a few of the offerings available this year. They ranged from jet-black porters to the palest of pale ales and the beer that found most favour was one brewed with Biblical additions of frankincense and myrrh.

Wychwood Brewery in Oxfordshire, brewer of Hobgoblin ruby ale -- second-biggest bottled beer in Britain -- has added a 5.3% IPA to the range. The beer is brewed with pale and Vienna malts and hopped with both English and American varieties

Moor Beer, the Bristol-based brewery run by American Justin Hawke, is breaking into the fast-growing Italian beer market with cask-conditioned real ale. The beer comes complete with instructions in Italian on how to cellar, tap, spile and serve the beer. Moor Beers are naturally hazy as Hawke does not use isinglass finings to clear his beers.

Hogs Back Brewery in Surrey has won new listings in a number of supermarkets, including Co-op and Morrison's, for its TEA bitter with Hogstar lager in Majestic Wines. The brewery has also announced two beers that are ideal for the Christmas period: Advent Ale and the strong vintage ale A over T. The beers are brewed with hops grown on the brewery's own garden and include Farnham White Bine, a historic variety revived by Hogs Back.

50 MPs have signed a petition calling on Chancellor Philip Hammond to ease the crippling tax burden on Britain's pubs in his autumn Budget in November. The petition is seen being delivered to the Treasury by MPs Mike Wood, Ruth Smeeth and Stephen Lloyd, officers of the Parliamentary Beer Group. MPs are calling for a cut or freeze in excise duty and help to ease the business rates burden on pubs
