'Beer Bucks' bond to build I&G brewery
1m euro expansion by Irish craft brewer
Carlow Brewing, Ireland's leading craft brewery, is investing more than 1 million euro in an expansion plan that will create 12 new jobs, including the brewing side. The brewery produces stout, wheat beer, ale and lager. Founder Seamus O'Hara (pictured) says there is both increasing demand and space for growth in the Irish beer market and in exports

Bradford brewery in bitter political row
A tweet from Bradford brewery founder Matthew Halliday has enraged George Galloway, the Respect parliamentary candidate (pictured), and sparked a rush for the new brewery's beers and support on Twitter from around the world. On the positive side, this is the first new brewery in Bradford since the 1950s and, thanks to the political storm, sold six casks of ale in its tap room over Easter

Beer is booming in Birkenhead
Peerless Brewing on the Wirral has grown from 12 to 30 barrels in five years and its new plant is energy-efficient, saving on electricity, oil and steam. The brewery has won a clutch of medals from the Society of Independent Brewers and offers a beer range that covers pale, gold and black and a strong stout that's a Riot to drink.

Boost for Truman's with major investment
Truman's, the revived East London brewery, is planning a major expansion at its Hackney Wick site with a half-million pounds investment. The brewery opened in 2013, restoring the name of the famous Whitechapel brewery that closed during the period of mergia mania at the end of the 20th century. Scots brewers unite to boost their beer
In a bid to further sales and interests of Scottish beer, eight independent brewers have joined forces to form The Brewers' Association of Scotland. They hope to draw in other craft breweries to expand sales nationally and globally. Representatives of the eight breweries met in the Scottish Parliament, with TBAS chairman Dougal Sharp of Innis & Gunn pictured third from the right. Brewing is bouncing back in Bruges
Bruges had 20 breweries in the 20th century but most were taken over and closed by a giant lager group. But the brewing tradition is being restored. Halve Maan reopened in 2005 and has a smart new brewhouse while both Bourgogne des Flandres and Bryggja will start brewing this year

Thwaites deal favours Marston's
The £25 million Marston's has been for the brewing side of Thwaites of Blackburn will reap the Burton giant a rich reward as it can flood Thwaites' tied and free accounts with its own beers. Thwaites says it still plans to build anew brewery -- but what would it produce there as it has signed a 10-year production deal with Marstons? It's more likely that Thwaites is destined to become just a pub company but will keep control of the Crafty Dan micro plant
