West Berkshire Brewery, chaired by David Bruce, will raise £4 million to help fund a move to a new brewery in the Thames Valley to keep pace with demand for its beers. Lacons Brewery, brought back from the dead in 2013, has won a prestigious Gold Award in the SIBA East Anglia competition. Batemans of Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, has scooped a top prize for its Black Pepper Ale in the World Beer Awards. Acorn Brewery just goes on winning prizes for its Barnsley Bitter. For the first time in more than 100 years, hops have been grown and harvested in London. Meantime Brewery, based in Greenwich, planted Fuggles on the banks of the river behind the O2 Arena. They were picked by volunteers and will be used in a new bottled beer later this year

Father Toby Sims, a priest in the Russian Orthodox Church, blessed the Christmas Ale at Harvey's Brewery in Lewes, East Sussex on 4 September. Father Sims is studying to become a commercial brewer and hopes to follow in the footsteps of the famous Belgian Trappist monks

Suffolk brewer Adnams is urging beer lovers to look out for wild hops or hops grown in gardens that can be used in a special Wild Hop beer. Head brewer Fergus Fitzgerald (pictured) will blend the wild hops with cultivated ones for the brew
