Top award for new Bradford brewery

Just a few months after opening, Bradford Brewery has scooped the top award of New Business of the Year in the annual Bradford Means Business competition sponsored by the local Telegraph & Argus newspaper. Brewery managing director Matthew Halliday is seen picking up his award.

BrewDog to build US brewery in Ohio

Pugnacious Scottish brewer BrewDog will invest $30 million in a brewery in the United States, due to open in August 2016. The brewery, along with a tap room and visitor centre, will be based in Canal Winchester in the region of Columbus, Ohio. The brewery will act as the spur for BrewDog's exports. Reg Drury, a cask beer hero

Reg Drury, former Fuller's head brewer, who has died aged 76, was a passionate supporter of cask-conditioned 'real ale'. In the 1970s, with giant brewers developing keg beers, Reg saved Fuller's cask brands by improving their quality while brewing them in new-style conical fermenters. Beers such as ESB went on to win multiple prizes in beer competitions

Four students from the brewing and distilling course at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh have made a deep bow in the direction of Extra Special Bitter by producinga version that stresses the style's roots in both Britain and the United States. BrewDog in £25m expansion drive

Scottish craft brewer BrewDog will invest in a new £25m brewhouse in Ellon near Aberdeen that will increase production capacity five times. £6m has been raised by a "crowd funding" initiative and £3m of that figure will go straight into the new brewhouse, which will have a capacity of 300hl. Nick Miller, chief executive of Meantime Brewing Co, says the takeover by SABMiller won't affect beer quality: "They haven't got the balls to tell brewmaster Alastair Hook what to brew," he says. Purity: beer with a clear conscience

"Brewing with a conscience" are the watch words at Purity Brewery in Warwickshire. Steam is trapped and recycled while water is fed into a wetland system of ponds and reed beds where algae clean it, return it to the brewery and encourage wild life to develop.
