Jasper Carrott threatens 'showbiz picket' at village pub over landlord eviction threat
Comedian Jasper Carrott is so outraged by Enterprise Inns' decision to terminate Ayman Zahran's lease at the Red Lion in Claverdon that he has threatened to join a picket line outside the Warwickshire pub and bring his showbiz friends with him. In 2015 Enterprise agreeed to extend Mr Zahran's lease but is now terminating it. A local petition has gained close to 2,000 signatures. Jasper Carrott is pictured outside the pub with Mr Zahran.

Battle royal to save East End lively local
A local community in Limehouse, East London, is battling to save the Queens Head pub from closure. The Young's pub is thought to be the model for the Queen Vic in Eastenders and was famously visited by the Queen Mother, who was photographed drinking a pint of Young's Special. The pub has been listed as an Asset of Community Value

Former nightclub crowned pub of year
Grant Cook (pictured) was on holiday when he put in a bid for a former nightclub in Cheltenham. Three years later, the Sandford Park Alehouse has been named National Pub of the Year by CAMRA, with judges praising the choice of 10 cask beers, the warm welcome and the stylish modern decor in the Grade II-listed building

Co-op agrees to back community pubs
Major national retailer the Co-op has joined forces with CAMRA -- the Campaign for Real Ale -- to protect Britain's community locals. The retail group will allow pubs to remain on land where convenience stores are built alongside and it will engage with all local groups when any change of use is considered. The Co-op will also take into account pubs with Asset of Community Value status when building convenience stores alongside

Mulholland leads new pub reform group
Twelve pub groups campaigning for pubco rerform have joined forces to launch the British Pub Confederation to present a united front in the battle with such national pub-owning companies as Enterprise Inns and Punch Taverns over the beer tie and rents. The new group will be chaired by Greg Mulholland MP, who also heads the Parliamentary Save the Pub Group and who steered the Market Rent Only option through the last parliament.

Top pubs jostle for national crown
Britain's top 16 regional pubs are named today by CAMRA to coincide with the launch of the 2016 Good Beer Guide. The pubs -- including the Old Poets Corner in Ashover, Derbyshire (pictured) -- have come through a long trail of judging by local CAMRA branches, who choose local and regional pubs. The lucky 16 will now go forward to be judged in the national competition with the National Pub of the Year announced next February

ACVs are badge of honour to protect pubs says CAMRA chief executive Tim Page
CAMRA chief executive Tim Page stresses that if a pub is given ACV -- Asset of Community Value -- status is doesn't mean the pub can't be sold on as a going concern but would remain a pub. ACV means that pub owners can't turn pubs into flats or other busnesses against the wishes of local communities
