Antwerp brewery has a load of Bollekes

The De Koninck brewery in Antwerp, famous for its rich, bronze-coloured ale, has bowed to public pressure and renamed the beer Bolleke after the elegant glass chalice it's served in. Local drinkers never call the beer De Koninck but always demand "a Bolleke" in the city's bars and restaurants.

Surrey Hills Shere Drop is Champion beer

Surrey Hills Brewery in Dorking has walked away with the coveted title of Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival staged by CAMRA at London Olympia. The festival runs until Saturday. The champion beer event is the culmination of many rounds of tastings and judging in different styles and categories. Gorge yourself on Cheddar wild beer

Wild Beer in Somerset has used open vats or coolships first used to make cheese curds to launch Coolship 2019, a spontaneously fermented beer blended with beer aged in French wine casks. The brewers say they are not attempting to create a Belgian Lambic type beer as they have sufficient of their own bugs for fermentation

CAMRA's big ale fest rings the changes with beer for all in both casks and kegs

For the first time in its 42 years, the Great British Beer Festival will offer live keg beers alongside traditional cask ales. The festival at London Olympia, 6-10 August, will have keykeg beers from Tiny Rebel, Siren Craft and Wild Beer while Harveys of Sussex will offer a chance to taste its beer in both cask and keg formats. The organisers say they are reaching out to a wider audience that wants to drink good beer in different formats

Cask vs keg challenge at top beer fest

A cask vs keg challenge will be the high-point of this year's Great British Beer Festival (6-10 August) at London Olympia. Miles Jenner, head brewer at Harvey's of Lewes in Sussex, will lead a tasting of his Wharfe IPA in keg and cask versions. He will also have samples of his Tin Lizzie barley wine in keg format for the first time. The new Discovery Zone at the festival will introduce visitors to the brewing experience with experts from malt and hop companies on hand, along with brewers from Adnams,Siren and Wild Beer among others

Help preserve beer's heritage archive

The National Brewery Heritage Trust needs urgent financial help to save a unique collection of documents and artefacts detailing the history of British brewing. The aim is to produce an online catalogue. A crowdfunding campaign is running to raise money and will close of 23 July.

Flavour rules in new age low alcohol beer

Low alcohol and no alcohol beers -- dubbed NABLABs -- used to taste like cold Horlicks. Such horrors as Kaliber were advertised by Billy Connolly, who is now on the wagon! But a new range of NABLABS offer the taste of malt and hops and can be genuinely enjoyable. Adnams removes the alcohol from Ghost Ship by reverse osmosis while the Small Beer Brewery uses less grain to obtain the level of alcohol required.

Burton's historic Unions create new IPA

The historic Union fermenting vessels (pictured) at Marston's brewery in Burton-on-Trent have been called into play to create an IPA that was planned in the nano DE14 plant used to trial new brews. No 1 Horninglow IPA will be on sale in Waitrose and, along with other beers in the series, is bottle-conditioned and will age for several years.

Ssh! Trappist monks sell their beer online

Monks at Westvleteren, the smallest and most remote of Belgium's Trappist breweries, have responded to world-wide demand for their acclaimed bottle-conditioned beers by making them available by ordering online. Previously, beer lovers could only buy the beers by phoning the abbey when a new batch of beer was ready -- and the lines were often busy for many hours.

Why I'm seeing red over 'amber' Bitter
A pint of bitter is Britain's favourite style of ale yet a growing number of major brewers are re-branding both their bitters and pale ales as "amber". The trend started with Marston's Pedigree, which is a classic Burton pale ale, using no darker malts in its recipe, but is now labelled "amber". This is making a mockery of centuries of brewing tradition and traducing a beer style famous throughout the world
