Vanilla Stout brewed by Bingham's Brewery in Berkshire won the prestigious Champion Beer of Britain award at the Great British Beer Festival on 9 August. It's the first time in the history of the competition that a "Speciality Beer" -- using additions to malt and hops -- has won the top award. Lewis Hazelwood-Horner will have an exhibition depicting working breweries and London pubs at Mall Galleries in central London on 19 and 24 September. His work is the result of residencies in a number of breweries and the paintings will show all stages of the brewing practice. The paintings also show hop farms in Kent and the breweries involved include Harvey's, Howling Hops, Redemption, Truman and Kernel.

The Great British Beer Festival, staged by CAMRA, is one of the world's top festivals and offers some of the best choice. 900 beers will include British cask ales plus brews from the United States and mainland Europe. The festival at London Olympia from 9-13 August will also include the Champion Beer of Britain competition while top experts will present tutored talks every day.

Greene King has launched a special beer to commemorate football legend Bobby Moore, who captained the England team in 1966 that won the World Cup. The beer is 4.2% to mark the score in the final match against West Germany -- and the ball did cross the line!

Scottish brewer Innis & Gunn, famous for its oak-aged beers, has placed a bottle of its strong, bottle-conditioned Vintage Ale in a time capsule for drinking in 100 years times. I&G founder Dougal Sharp says the beer will continue to age in bottle and is likely to taste very different when opened -- though he admits he is unlikely to be around for the tasting. Earlier this year, I&G bought the Inveralmond Brewery in Perth to increase production of its beer range

Pub campaigners in Surrey are battling to save the Cambridge Hotel from being sold to a property developer. It's the last pub standing on London Road, Camberley, where 16 pubs once stood. Members of the Surrey Hants Borders branch of CAMRA (pictured) are urging the local council to give the pub Asset of Community Value status that would allow the local community to attempt to raise funds to buy the pub

Figures produced by CAMRA -- the Campaign for Real Ale -- show that pub closures have fallen from 27 to 21 a week. The campaign says this is due to vigorous work at grassroots level (pictured) to save pubs, supported by the government's freeze on beer duty. But rural and suburban pubs are still at the sharp end of closures as new openings bring respite to the high streets

Exmoor Gold was meant to be one-off brew but it sparked a beer revolution in Britain 30 years ago. Other brewers rushed to make similar beers and Golden Ale is now a major British beer style. Jonathan Price (pictured) owns Exmoor Ales in Somerset and he was joined by local CAMRA members to celebrate the beer's 30th anniversary.

Oakham Brewery in Peterborough has swooped on the London pub scene with its award-winning Green Devil IPA. The beer, promoted on cabs, will be delivered fresh and direct from the brewery and will be available in outlets that can sign up to the Oakademy scheme that gives publicans direct access to all the brewery's beers
