The 2022 edition of the Good Beer Guide, published by CAMRA -- the Campaign for Real Ale -- shows that the number of breweries in the UK has grown despite the impact of the pandemic. The guide lists some 4,500 pubs throughout the country that are serving cask beer in tip-top condition. The guide calls on the government to give greater support to both pubs and breweries in order to face the power of cost-cutting supermarkets

Innis & Gunn has won planning approval to build a new brewery alongside Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh where there's a renowned school of brewing and distilling. Students will be able to use the brewery's facilities. BrewDog plans to build a vast new brewery and bar at Waterloo Station in London on the site of the former Eurostar terminal

25 breweries in Britain and Ireland have joined forces to to brew collaborative beers led by Toast using surplus bread as their contribution to tackling waste. They have written an open letter to world leaders who will attend COP26 to step up the campaign to tackle climate change.

The annual Fuller's Vintage Ale has been released to please beer lovers everywhere. This year's vintage is brewed with pale, caragold and roasted crystal malts with Target, Endeavour, Olicana and CF 182 hops

River Cottage, founded by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, has teamed up with Stroud Brewery to launch three new organic beers, using ingredients that aid the environment by avoiding the use of chemicals and fertilisers. The beers include a new hop, CF257, that is undergoing trials with leading hop merchant Charles Faram. Two of the beers include stinging nettles and hemp flour

The Cask Matters Group, made up of brewers and industry leaders, is urging all beer lovers to head for the pub and enjoy cask ale. During the lockdown more than 87 million pints of cask beer, worth £30 million, were poured down the drain and Paul Nunny of Cask Matters says we need to support our "national treasure" or it could disappear.

Quantock Brewery has celebrated its 1,500th brew with Milestone 1500, a 6.5 per cent beer described as a "Mountain IPA", combining West Coast and East Coast styles. The brewery was founded in 2008 with an eight-barrel plant that can produce 300 casks per week.

A famous East End pub, the Boleyn Tavern, has been restored to its Victorian splendour thanks to a £1 million refurbishment by its owners, Remarkable Pubs. The pub was opened in 1900 by the Limehouse brewer Taylor Walker and it was visited on several occasions by Mahatma Gandhi when he was studying in London. The pub fell into disrepair when West Ham United moved to Stratford but it's now fully open with a good range of cask beers

The future of the Iron Duke pub in Great Yarmouth hangs in the balance as the local council and preservation trust decide whether its future is as a pub or retail or private building. The Art Deco pub was built in the 1930s but has been closed for 15 years. It's now Grade II-listed but this will not protect it from being turned into different, alternative use
