Restoring brewing to historic Young's site
Sambrooks Brewery in Battersea plans to relocate in 2020 to the Ram Quarter in Wandsworth, South-east London -- the site of the historic Young's brewery that closed in 2006. Duncan Sambrook opened his brewery in 2008 to fill the void left by Young's and will use the old buildings for a brewery, tap room and museum. £70m expansion boost for Czech Budvar
A £70 million investment at Budweiser Budvar in the Czech Republic will enable the state-owned brewery to boost annual production to 2 million hectolitres.The brewery exports to 80 countries, with Germany its main customer and enjoying healthy sales in the UK. It has launched a new beer, Budvar 33, and its chief executive Petr Dvorak thinks most of the trademark battles with AB InBev are now in the past. Pictured, the copper brewhouse

Seaside brewery is pushing the boat out
Salcombe Brewery in Devon has a mission to produce not only good beers but also to put something back into the community and help the environment. Seahorse donates to the Seahorse Trust that supports the endangered species while LIfesaver makes a contribution to the local lifeboat station

West Berks bucks trend with beer boost
West Berkshire Brewery has invested £9 million in re-branding its ales and lagers with a 12 times expansion of production and the installation of state-of-the-art bottling and canning lines. It is bucking the trend with a 61 per cent increase in sales of its main cask beer Good Old Boy. Collaboration beers are planned while a further £1 million has been invested in environmentally sustainable production with a reed bed drainage system and a natural habitat for wildlife

Czech mates are a fine team in Tottenham
Four Czechs are forcing British drinkers to rethink their attitude to lager. In place of thin, fizzy and bland beers, Zdenek Kudr, Petr Skocek and their colleagues at Bohem Brewery are fashioning beers that are properly aged, use only the finest ingredients and are served in their Taproom using the approved "Czech pour" (pictured) that leaves flavour, not gas, in the glass

Youth takes helm at Greene King brewery
Greene King has appointed 28 year-old Ross O'Hara as head brewer at its Suffolk brewery. Ross is a graduate of Heriot Watt School of Brewing & Distilling in Edinburgh and has also qualified as a Master Brewer. He is only the 17th head brewer in Greene King's 220-year history

Stroud: going green in the Cotswolds
S troud Brewery, launched by Greg Pilley (pictured) in 2006, has moved to new premises where Greg and his team produce a range of organic beers to meet his passion for aiding the environment.The new site includes a tap room and bar where local people can enjoy the beers along with pizzas cooked in an oven imported from Naples. At present Stroud has a 20-barrel kit but Greg plans to expand to 40 barrels as demand grows

Poppyland safe in new brewing hands
Martin Warren, prize-winning owner of Poppyland Brewery in Cromer, has handed over ownership of the brewery to Dave Cornell. Dave is moving to the Norfolk seaside town to continue to brew the eclectic range of beers, some using foraged plants and herbs, and will build on the portfolio. New ale celebrates Belhaven's 300th
Belhaven in Dunbar is Scotland's oldest brewery and it will mark its 300th anniversary in 2019 with a series of events at the brewery, including the opening of a new visitor centre. It kicks off the year with a special new ale,1719, in bottle and on draught, to show both the ancient and modern side of the brewery

Fuller's: end of family brewing in London
The sale for £250 million of Fuller's brewery and brands to Asahi of Japan brings to an end the long history of family brewing in London. Fuller's sold up as a result of falling profits from brewing, with cask sales in particular down by 10 per cent, with far more money to be made from pub retailing. The worry now is that the Japanese giant will reduce the beer range is order to turn London Pride into an "international brand".
