The Munich Oktoberfest has been cancelled this year but you can sample a Marzen or March beer -- the style once brewed for the festival by Munich brewers. This version comes from The Park Brewery in Kingston upon Thames and is true to style, using Munich and Vienna malts and hops from the Hallertau region

Cask Ale Week starts on 24 September and, despite the new restrictions on pub opening hours, it will encourage beer lovers to go to their locals and enjoy a style of beer that's unique to Britain. New look tankard for Black Sheep ale

BrewDog in bid to save the planet
Scottish brewer BrewDog plans to plant one million trees by 2020 in the Highlands in a bid to capture carbon. Founders James Watt and Martin Dickie say that while they have reduced carbon emissions at the brewery they knew, when they heard a lecture on climate change by Sir David Attenborough, they had to do more to help save the planet. The BrewDog Forest will host retreats and workshops for drinkers who want to do more to help the planet survive

The Budvan is a new service from Budweiser Budvar that delivers fresh Budvar Original to pubs with a full back-up service that enables the Czech lager to be served in tip-top condition. The Buvan is seen delivering beer to the Forge pub near Leicester, part of the Beautiful Pubs group.

Brewers at war over tax reform
Plans by the Treasury to reform the tax incentives in Small Brewers Relief have caused a major row in the brewing industry. By changing the threshold at which higher duty is levied, a number of small brewers say they could be forced out of business. A coalition of bigger brewers say the current threshold is a barrier to growth and needs to be removed. Both SIBA, the voice of small brewers, and CAMRA are opposing the changes

Beer inspired by Nightingale backs NHS
Rudi Keyser, founder of Watling Street Brewery in North London, was so inspired by the work of the NHS in combating the coronavirus pandemic that he volunteered to work at the Nightingale Hospital in Docklands and also brewed a special pale Nighting Ale with £1 from every sale going to the Covid-19 appeal.
