Landlord Dark, Timothy Taylor

Added: Saturday, March 8th 2025

Style Alt & Amber ABV 4.1%

Landlord Dark (4.1%)

This beer from the Timothy Taylor stable in Keighley, North Yorkshire, is better known by its original name of Ram Tam.

The new name builds on the remarkable success of Landlord pale ale, which is now a national brand and rivals Doom Bar as the most popular cask ale in the country.

Dark is brewed with Golden Promise malting barley and caramelised sugars for colour. The hops are Fuggles, Goldings and Styrian Goldings. Water comes from the Knowle Spring at the brewery that’s fed by the Pennines.

Following the copper boil with hops, the beer rests on a bed of Styrians for additional aroma and flavour.

The finished beer has a big fruity and roasted malt aroma and palate with notes of chocolate, caramel and spicy hops. The finish is smooth, creamy and gently hoppy with continuing notes of roast, chocolate and caramel. It’s suitable for vegans.

£2 for a 500ml bottle in branches of Sainsbury’s.
