Anspach & Hobday, famous for their best-selling London Black porter, are marking 11 years of brewing in Bermondsey, South London, with a 4.5 per cent Celebration Porter.
The success of their dark beers is a further celebration of the origins of porter and stout in London in the early 18th century – a style that launched the modern commercial brewing industry.
Celebration Porter is brewed with the finest malting barley, Maris Otter, with amber and crystal malts and roasted barley, with invert sugar. The hops are East Kent Goldings and Bullion.
The beer has a rich and velvety character, with biscuit malts dominating the aroma but with a solid underpinning of spicy hops. Roasted grain with a hint of liquorice builds on the palate with continuing notes of honeyed, roasted grain, dark fruit and herbal hops. The finish is long with a fine balance of burnt fruit, roasted grain and bitter, spicy hops.
£3.35.
