BA Baltic Porter, 9.7 per cent

This powerful Porter was first brewed as a collaboration between Orbit Brewing and Utopian Brewing. A batch of the beer was stored and aged in oak casks for three years and was inoculated with three strains of Brettanomyces yeast. Brettanomyces means “British fungus” and was first found and analysed in the 18^th century when Porters and Stouts were aged in oak casks for several months and emerged with tart and acidic aromas and flavours described as rustic and “horse blanket”.

The Orbit beer is vinous, with powerful notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, oak and tobacco. There are rustic notes from the Brett and the finish is spicy, peppery and acidic.
