Camden Beer 2019
Camden’s annual vintage beer is an Imperial Pilsner, 11 per cent, that the brewery says will put the fizz into Christmas better than wine. It has been aged for six months in the classic Champagne combination of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay barriques. The hops – Hallertau Blanc and Enigma – add a fruity note to the lager beer.
The brewer says “It’s too dry and tasty to smash over the hull of a ship or spray over a racing car”.
The beer is a bright burnished gold with a big fluffy collar of foam leading to an entrancing aroma of toasted malt, oak and fruity hops. The palate is dry – Brut – with bitter hops, honeyed malt and bitter lemon fruit. Finally, the finish is dominated by sharp and tangy fruit but with continuing notes of mellow honeyed malt and spicy hops.
The beer comes in a 500ml bottle and costs £9 in Waitrose. Stocks are limited.
