West Berkshire Renegade West Coast Pale Ale

West Berkshire has created a new company, Renegade Brewery, to offer distinctive craft beers in keg and bottled format. West Coast Pale Ale is its interpretation of the style that has become a major influence in the United States, with its roots in the vibrant California sector of the beer scene.

The 5.1% beer is brewed withy Maris Otter pale malt, with cara and amber malts, and is generously hopped with Cascade, Chinook, Columbus and Summit hops, plus an addition of English Northdown.

It has a bright pale bronze colour and a snappy aroma of citrus fruit, with grapefruit to the fore but with contributions from mango, peach and tropical fruits. Juicy malt builds in the mouth, balancing the fruit and hop bitterness. The finish is bittersweet to start but ends dry, hoppy and fruity, but retaining a good balance of biscuit malt.
