Stroud Brewery, which specialises in producing organic beers, has joined forces with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall at River Cottage to launch two beers for Organic September.
The beers are part of the River Cottage “food to inspire” campaign. River Cottage chose Stroud Brewery as a result of its ethical credentials. Both the brewery and River Cottage are advocates of organic produce which they say stands for good farming and good produce that should be grown, cooked and eaten in ways that enhance people’s lives and increase their well-being.
The beers are River Cottage Organic Stinger Golden Ale (4.2%) and River Cottage Organic Rye PA (4.1%). Stinger is brewed with pale, lager and Munich malts with flaked oats and organic nettles. A single hop, First Gold, is used and the beer is dry hopped with an addition of hops following fermentation. It has sherbet lemons, creamy oats and floral hops on the aroma with a hint of herbal nettles. Biscuit malt, tart hops and lemon fruit dominate the palate followed by a bittersweet finish that becomes dry with gentle hop bitterness balancing rich malt and herbal nettles.
River Cottage Organic Rye PA is brewed with pale, wheat, crystal and Munich malts and is hopped with Citra and Sovereign varieties. The pale bronze beer has biscuit malt on the aroma with spicy/herbal hops. The hops build on the palate balancing creamy malt and tart fruit. The dry, bitter finish has spicy hops, biscuit malt and tangy fruit.
