Oakham bottles dark ale
Added: Tuesday, January 3rd 2012
Oakham Ales has added Hawse Buckler, a 5.6% dark ale, to its bottled beer range, a seasonal ale for the winter period. The beer was first brewed on draught in 2006 for CAMRA's Peterborough beer festival, and the brewery team felt the beer, bursting with chocolate, raisin and roasted malt aromas and flavours, would be a fine addtion to a bottled range that includes JHB (4.2%), Inferno (4.4%), Citra (4.6%) and Bishop's Farewell (5%).
Hawse Buckler is brewed with Maris Otter pale malt, wheat malt, chocolate and crystal malts and is hopped with two American varieties, Amarillo and Chinook.
The label shows a piratical skull and crossbones: a hawse buckler is a nautical term that refers to the hawse or cable hole on a ship.
