Northern Rising Unity Stout (4.4%)
Unity Stout is a collaboration brew between the revered Timothy Taylor in Keighley and the fast-growing new independent Northern Monk in Leeds.
The beer is available cask conditioned and in kegs for pubs, with cans for the take-home trade.
It’s brewed with pale, crystal and roasted grains, with Golden Promise from Scotland providing the pale. The hops are East Kent Goldings and Fuggles.
The beer is jet black with a deep creamy head. The aroma is rich with chocolate, coffee and roast grain with a hint of spicy hops. The palate is bittersweet, dominated by roast and chocolate but with a growing hop note. The finish is long, with bitter, spicy hops balancing roast, chocolate and coffee.
The draught version is available in the breweries’ pubs and other outlets while the canned version is on sale in selected branches of Morrison’s. It can also be bought from www.timothytaylorshop.co.uk and www.northernmonk.com.
