Style Golden Ale ABV 3.4%

Griffin Gold 3.4%

One of the many things that mark British beer out from the rest of the world is that we produce beers low in strength but which are nevertheless packed with flavour.

No self-respecting drinker in Belgium or Germany would touch a beer of just 3.4 per cent but Griffin Gold is both wonderfully refreshing and delivers a fine aroma and palate.

It recalls Chiswick Bitter, a cask ale that weighed in at just 3.5 per cent but so impressed judges that it won the Champion Beer of Britain award in 1989 at the Great British Beer Festival.

Griffin Gold is available only in bottle at present. It’s brewed with pale and cara gold malts and the hops are American Cascade and Citra with Hallertau Tradition from Bavaria.

It has a lilting aroma of honeyed malt with citrus and pine from the hops. The balance of malt and hops continue on the palate and the finish has a big hop note of pine and tart fruit along with increasing bitterness balanced by the rich malt.

The beer is available from Fuller’s online shop for £15.50 for eight 500ml bottles.
