Baltic Trader Export Stout (10.5%)
Green Jack Brewery in Lowestoft, Suffolk, won the Champion Bottled Beer of Britain competition at GBBF this week with Baltic Trader and is a fitting Beer of the Month.
Lowestoft is a port that historically conducted a lot of trade with Russia and the Baltic States and cargo included stouts and porters that were high in alcohol to keep them in good condition during often stormy sea passages.
Baltic Trader, bottle conditioned, is brewed with pale malt, molasses and three roasted malts, including wheat and maize, with English hop varieties. It has an intense aroma and palate of roasted grain, vanilla, coffee and dark burnt fruits. The finish is long, complex, bittersweet, with a fine balance of roasted grain, grassy hops, coffee, vanilla and burnt fruit.
£10.80 for a bottle or £52.20 for a box of six.
