Love Hate Marmite Ale, Camden Town

Camden Love Hate Marmite Ale (4.8%)

Whether you love or hate the beer will depend on your appreciation – or lack of it – of Britain’s favourite breakfast spread. Camden Town Brewery has joined forces with Marmite, based in the great historic brewing town of Burton-on-Trent.

While Camden is famous for its Hell lager, this beer is fermented with ale yeast. The malts are Pilsner and Munich with Rauch smoked malt from another famous brewing town, Bamberg in Germany. The other addition is Marmite and the single hop is Perle.

Marmite is a by-product of brewing, with excess yeast delivered to the Marmite factory by brewers in Burton.

The beer is a dark chestnut colour with a smoky, yeasty/Marmite aroma and palate, with a touch of dark fruit and floral hops. The finish is bitter, quenching with a touch of salt from the famous Burton water, yeast, smoked malt and “noble” German hops. I like it – but I’m a Marmite fan.

The beer will be available from 13 September from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Co-Op, Ocado, Waitrose and Morrisons or from Camden’s Beer Hall or web shop for £8 for a 4-pack. https://shop.camdentownbrewery.com
