Fyne Ales Elegy, Fyne Ales

Added: Wednesday, July 1st 2020

Style Oak aged ABV 11.5%

Fyne Ales Elegy 11.5%

The beer is the result of a collaboration brew between Fyne Ales in Scotland and Cigar City Brewing in Florida, U.S. Cigar City brewer Wayne Wambles came to the farm brewery on the shores of Loch Fyne and developed a beer with Fyne head brewer Malcolm Downie that was aged in Hazelburn single malt casks from the Springburn Distillery.

The beer is brewed with nine malts and is aged for more than a year in the whisky casks. Malcolm Downie says the Hazelburn casks were chosen as they don’t give an overwhelming oak note to the finished beer.

Elegy is double mashed and delivers a big punch of whisky, light oak notes, fudge, honey, dark grain, burnt fruit and spicy hops on the nose. Whisky notes dominate the palate, balanced by ripe fruit, oak, dark grain, fudge, honey and spicy hops.

The finish is bittersweet, long and complex with light oak, pungent whisky, burnt fruit, fudge, roasted grain and spicy hops.

This superb beer comes in a 375ml bottle and costs £6.95. www.fyneales.com
