Camden  Off Menu IPA

Camden Town brewery has had such success with its Helles pale lager that IPA wasn’t on the menu. Perhaps owners AB InBev had a word...

The brewery has certainly come up with a humdinger of a beer, packed with delicious malt and hop aromas and flavours. The grains are Pils, Extra Pale, wheat and caramalt with a hop bill of CTZ and Simcoe in the kettle, Simcoe in the whirlpool and then dry hopped with Simcoe and Simcoe Cryo.

The 5.8 per cent beer is unfiltered and unpasteurised and has a hazy gold colour. There’s a massive hit of spicy and peppery hops on the nose with powerful notes of turmeric, cracker biscuit malt and a touch of butterscotch. Fruity and bitter hops dominate the palate with biscuit malt and spice notes. The long finish starts hoppy and bitter but there are developing notes of juicy malt, spices and butterscotch.

It’s wonderfully refreshing and definitely on my menu,

£1.80 a can in Sainsbury’s, £6 for a four-pack. It’s also available in Fuller’s pubs. www.camdentownbrewery.com.
