Winter Ruby Ale, Robinson's

Added: Sunday, September 1st 2019

Style Winter Ale ABV 4.2%

Robinson’s Co-op Winter Ruby Ale 4.2%

Winter is coming early at the Co-op. Ruby Ale continues the collaboration between the retailer and Robinson’s Brewery in Stockport, which has already produced a popular range of Triple Hop, Golden Ale and IPA.

The new beer, launched on 2 September and available in 1,400 Co-op stores nationwide, is the result of discussions between the retailer and Robinson’s head brewer Martyn Weeks. It’s made with pale malt and rye and hopped with Aurora, Celeia and Goldings varieties. The label depicts the Castlefield area.

It has a flaring ruby colour with a vinous fruit and butterscotch aroma balanced by rich biscuit malt and spicy hops. The palate is tart and hoppy with powerful notes of nutty grain, toffee and tangy dark fruits, followed by a lingering finish that is dry, fruity and hoppy, with lingering notes of toffee and dark, nutty grain.

The Co-op says it’s the ideal beer to sip before a blazing fire. Not before the cricket season is over, surely! I will raise a glass to celebrate if we win the Ashes.

£1.60, 500ml. The beer is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. www.coop.co.uk
