Sharp’s brewery has revealed that its flagship beer, Doom Bar, is the number one cask beer in the UK, in both volume and value. Doom Bar has reached top spot after achieving an average growth rate of 45% over the last three years.
Founded in 1994, Sharp’s commitment to quality ingredients and dedicated customer service has been integral to its flagship beer’s rise to number one ahead of the brewery’s 20th anniversary next year. With sales currently growing at a rate of 30%, there is huge momentum behind Doom Bar, which has established itself as a consistently excellent cask beer and a brand with unique appeal.
Sharp’s, the award-winning brewery based in Rock, North Cornwall, has seen considerable growth across its product portfolio, with Sharp’s beers now available in around 6,500 stockists in the UK. In addition to sales growth, Sharp’s has also invested in its team, with employee numbers rising from 88 to 107, and capacity at the brewery has increased by 54% over the last two years.
Emma Bebbington, General Manager at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “Doom Bar’s consistent growth has allowed us to invest in the brewery, expanding and improving our brewing operations through our recent success. We unveiled a new temperature-controlled warehouse at the end of April which will help us to ensure that our beers arrive in trade and reach the consumer in optimum condition. Projects like this stand us in good stead to maintain strong growth and keep developing our broad portfolio of award-winning, cask-conditioned beers.”
Stephen Martin, Drinks Category Manager at Punch Taverns, commented: “Doom Bar is exceeding all expectations for us and receives a fantastic response from our partners all around the country. The quality and consistency of the beer has been exceptional throughout our trading partnership and we are delighted to see such fantastic growth in the brand. Congratulations to all the team at Sharp’s – a just reward for their hard work.”
Sharp’s successful start to this year has been gilded with two gold medals at the International Brewing Awards, with four honours won in total. The brewery has also launched three brand new beers from its Connoisseur’s Choice range, all of which are specially designed to partner quality food.
