Brewster's Britannia's Brew, Brewster's

Added: Wednesday, July 1st 2015

Style Spiced ale ABV 5.0%

 Britannia's Brew (5%)

A glowing gold-on-red ale conceived by beer writer and School of Booze organiser Jane Peyton to celebrate both Beer Day Britain and the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta, which enshrined in law a fair measure for ale throughout the kingdom. It’s brewed at Brewster’s Brewery in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

The beer is bottle conditioned and is brewed with all-British ingredients. The malt is Maris Otter while the hops are Boadicea and Sovereign. With a nice medieval touch, the beer has an addition of botanicals: seaweed for Wales, flax seed for Northern Ireland, rose petals for England and heather for Scotland.

The beer has a superb aroma of spices, candied fruit, toasted malt and earthy hops. The palate is beautifully balanced between biscuit malt, bitter hops and spicy and earthy botanicals, followed by a bitter, fruity, spicy, herbal and biscuit malt finish.

Only a limited run of the beer has been brewed so place an order without delay. It would be worth laying a few bottles down. It’s available online from Ales by Mail at £2.86 a bottle.
