A glowing gold-on-red ale conceived by beer writer and School of Booze organiser Jane Peyton to celebrate both Beer Day Britain and the 800^th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta, which enshrined in law a fair measure for ale throughout the kingdom. It’s brewed at Brewster’s Brewery in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

The beer is bottle conditioned and is brewed with all-British ingredients. The malt is Maris Otter while the hops are Boadicea and Sovereign. With a nice medieval touch, the beer has an addition of botanicals: seaweed for Wales, flax seed for Northern Ireland, rose petals for England and heather for Scotland.

The beer has a superb aroma of spices, candied fruit, toasted malt and earthy hops. The palate is beautifully balanced between biscuit malt, bitter hops and spicy and earthy botanicals, followed by a bitter, fruity, spicy, herbal and biscuit malt finish.

Only a limited run of the beer has been brewed so place an order without delay. It would be worth laying a few bottles down. It’s available online from Ales by Mail at £2.86 a bottle.
