Style Barley Wine ABV 10.0%

Box Steam Full Steam Ahead 10%

Box Steam Brewery in Wiltshire is celebrating its 10th anniversary with this oak-aged barley wine, a limited production of just 1,600 bottles. It’s a double celebration, as the brewery won a gold for the beer in the 2016 International Beer Challenge and also picked up bronze for its 4.5% Funnel Blower Porter.

Full Steam Ahead was aged in Bordeaux wine casks for a year and is bottle conditioned. It was brewed with Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt and a pinch of chocolate malt. The hops are Challenger and Goldings with Cascade for aroma.

The beer has a hazy red/bronze colour with a massive hit of vine fruits on the nose, with blackcurrants and sour plums to the fore, plus notes of toffee, butterscotch and vanilla. Tart, acidic fruit dominates the palate with continuing notes of vanilla and butterscotch, freshly-baked bread and gentle hops. The finish is rich and complex, bittersweet to start but ending with vine fruit, vanilla, oak and toasted malt with some spicy hop notes.

The beer costs £7.50 for a 75cl bottle and is available from the brewery http://boxsteambrewery.com/, Milletts Farm Shop, Farrington Farm Shop and Orient Express.
